Even in 3mm scale we have our own 3D printers – George Mitcheson has produced a number of 3D printed wagons and one that took my fancy was the London, Brighton and South Coast Rly Bolster wagon (the Brighton called then Batten wagons).
The wagon comes as a one piece moulding incorporating the body and sole bars.
W-irons, castings and brake gear and wheels supplied from the 3mm Society with chain from branchlines and d loops from brass wire.
An evenings work produced the wagon and it will soon be in the paint shop to be completed in Southern Railway livery.

Sprayed the wagon with Matt black primer and then used acrylics for the body.
The planking was coloured using Lifecolouts white wood set along with Tamiya Deck Tan acrylic paint. First time I have used life colour.
Next step will be to add couplings and transfers.
Features 3mm layout Portsea Uppingham and also Six Quarters (OTCM) and Scratchley Bottom (Emmett layout)
Is purchasing a 3D body, cheque book modelling? That is the question. Gavin Rose very kindly reduced his 4mm LBSCR E2 to 3mm to produce this fine body. Add a pair of 3SMR chassis sides and coupling rods, 14.2 chassis spaces, Andy Shillito motor, Branchline gears, Society wheels and no I would not say it is. The body is a means to an end.
Need to level the body but pretty pleased with the result.
Slow but steady progress on the Stock front.

The other ongoing project is a 3D printed SE&CR push pull driving trailer as used on the Westerham branch (one half of a 2 car set). Initial green coat put on, floor from plasticised and coach bogies from MJT (yes we do them in 3mm scale). A lot to do yet, fortunately managed to pick up a copy of the Mike King SR Pull – Push Stock book which gives details of the interior and some decent photos.

Had the opportunity to do some modelling being another year older and all that.
Started Andy Shillitos Linton Kits SECR P class in 3mm.
The kit is well thought out with tabs for locating the etch. I did find the tanks were handed and that I had 2 left hands instead of 1 left & 1 right but was able to overcome that. Had to do the boiler in 2 halves more my modelling skills than the kit design.
The castings are 3D printed rather than the usual white metal or lost wax so that should be interesting.

Just valances buffet bean and course roof to add. As for the chassis I have a motor that should fit with my usual branch line gear box with Alan Gibson wheels to complete, just got to work out the pickups couplings and livery. Considering painting as below

This was the livery used by the SECR in WW1 reportedly for goods engines.
What of the Terrier you might ask? The chassis is a runner but the pick ups need sorting and I have found the roof which did a runner. So within touching distance.
The Pickering needs more weight and I am going to use the motor for the P for now until I workout how to weight it.

August – so it must be Jelly & Ice Cream day in Chailey, Sussex (East or West not quite sure). A collection of layouts mainly of a narrow gauge persuasion with a few others from different scales thrown in the mix (spot the 3mm) makes for a pleasant afternoons socialising and railway modelling at its best.
