Ally Pally exhibition

Mr P and I visited the BRM sponsored MRC exhibition at Alexandra Palace yesterday.

Because on engineering works at the Cross we took the London Overground up to Highbury & Islington and then Great Northern to Alexandra Palace.

After a walk up the hill (both wishing we’d caught the bus) and a pint we went round the exhibition.

One observation was that it was a case of hunt the layout due to the vast number of trade stands. Some layouts we had both seen before whilst others were new to us.

Here are the photos

3mm – Ballyconnel Road

All in all a good exhibition. Also we had an ahhh moment – hedgehog 🦔 numbers are seriously reduced so fundraising well in hand!

Bus back to the station and some LNER action whilst waiting for the train home.

Colonel Stephens Pickering Railcar

My latest acquisition for Wimblehurst Road is a 3D printed 3mm scale body for a Pickering Railcar used by the Colonel on the Kent & East Sussex railway.

Originally drawn for 2mm scale by Alan of Etched Pixels he very kindly agreed to produce a 3mm version and uploaded it to the Shapeways website where I duly ordered and paid.

I must say the service from Shapeways is exceptional and arrived within 48 hours of being ordered. The moulding is of good quality, see pics below

Have not yet figured how to motorise it and there will be a fair bit of work to do but looks promising. The prototype had 3’1″ wheels which equates to 9mm in 3mm scale and the Society do some driving wheels which I hope will be okay more so for the gearbox too otherwise might have to use 9mm wagon wheels.

Here are some drawings courtesy of the Colonel Stephens Society of which I am a member.
