Mid Hants visit

Popped into the Mid Hants yesterday on the way down to the van.

Had a nice breakfast bap in the West Country Buffet in time to see the first service train of the day from Alresford.

So if your down that way, Breakfast bap highly recommend!

Black 5

On Sunday on the way down to Weymouth I popped into the Mid Hants to see what was on offer in both the model shop and s/hand bookstall at Alresford.

2 book purchases later (suitable donation) the Black 5 made an appearance on a service train and was in good voice.

The fireman when uncoupling made taking off the hoses look so easy although he had to get the driver to ease up as the screw coupling was taut.

Happy days.

Mid Hants steam

On the way home from the Bay popped into Ropley – not much happening drove to Medstead and Four Marks and as luck would have it the Countryman dinner pulled by Cheltenham which by the sound of it was short of steam as had to have a blow up outside before coming in on its way to Ropley

On the Alton train was the Mickey Mouse tank which had to wait for the Black 5 to arrive from Alton

Mind you had the opportunity to take some up close photos before the Mickey Mouse left

And so it departed for Alton.

And so Medstead returned to its peace and quiet.

Medstead & Four Marks

Dropped in on the mid Hants on the way home from Weymouth. Orignally went to Ropley but admission only by ticket (£18) as it was a Thomas tank day (cannot believe MHR have given their soul to the world of corporate finance!) so a jobsworth would not let me pass! Not to be out done I thought let’s try Medstead so found station approach parked up and wandered on to the station no problem, there was even a Black 5 waiting in the station – what a difference – so coffee, loo break and pictures, shame about Ropley – its seems the preserved lines have forgotten who their bread and butter customers are, anyhow here are the pics

Railway

Alton and the Mid Hants

On the way back from Weymouth this afternoon, the good Mrs.D wanted a comfort break and so being on the A31 near alton we stopped off at the Station cafe and had a spot of lunch and took in the trains on the Mid Hants where the Wizard express had arrived hauled by 9F 92212

What I like about this time of year is that the steam is more visible due to the cold

Here are some clos ups of the loco

However go all this way and what turns up a GWR loco!

Which arrived on the next service train – nevermind you cannot win them all.

One thing about Alton is the number of railway posters and adverts from days gone.

Worth a fortune if they are original but probably reproductions 😦
